Georgia announced its readiness to resume strategic partnership with the United States
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Iraklii Kobakhidze, expressed hope for the restoration of the strategic partnership with the United States, which was suspended during the presidency of Joe Biden. About this informs EuroNews.
Kobakhidze noted that the law “on foreign agents” introduced in Georgia, which caused severe criticism from the US embassy during the Biden administration, only provided for the submission of annual financial declarations by non-governmental organizations to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. He also commented on the decision of the White House to suspend the activities of USAID, calling it a positive signal for Georgia.
“Of course, these developments make us very optimistic that we can restore the partnership with the United States. We said, we said very clearly, that Georgia is ready to restore the strategic partnership with the United States,” – said the Prime Minister.
Kobakhidze expressed the country’s desire to become a connecting link between Europe and Asia, strengthening cooperation both with European states and the USA, and with the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
“We would like to further strengthen the partnership with the relevant countries on both sides of trade – with Europe, with the United States. And at the same time with the countries of the South Caucasus, with the countries of Central Asia, with China. I think that these trends, the positive trends that we have at the moment, can contribute to the restoration of our strategic function.”, he emphasized.
The prime minister expressed optimism about the prospect of Georgia’s membership in the European Union by 2030 and called on Brussels to show more flexibility in negotiations with potential new members.
