Germany has additionally allocated €3 billion in military aid to Ukraine this year
The budget committee of the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, approved the allocation of additional military aid to Ukraine: €3 billion in 2025 and another €8.3 billion between 2026 and 2029. About this informs DW.
These funds complement the already planned €4 billion in military support in 2025. A decision on additional funding was delayed by political disagreements, which eventually led to the collapse of the coalition government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who resigned.
The final approval of a major new spending package by the upper house of parliament, which would see the easing of strict debt rules on defense spending, was crucial to the bailout.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany will transfer Iris-T air defense systems, guided missiles, radars, drones, combat vehicles and light weapons to Ukraine.
We will remind that Germany remains one of the leading European suppliers of military aid to Ukraine. In addition to the IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, Germany transferred Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, MARS II and M142 HIMARS anti-aircraft guns, Marder BMP, Gepard anti-aircraft guns, as well as a significant amount of armored vehicles and vehicles.
