Germany to provide Ukraine with a military aid package worth 5 billion euros

Germany will provide Ukraine with a new package of military support worth 5 billion euros. This decision has already been approved by the Bundestag, informs Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany.

As part of this package, the Federal Republic of Germany will provide the Ukrainian defense forces with additional artillery shells, weapons for ground operations, small arms and air defense systems. In addition, Germany will provide assistance in the field of communications and medical support. Kyiv and Berlin also concluded an agreement that provides for financing the production of long-range weapons on the territory of Ukraine.

As noted by the Ministry of Defense of Germany, the main part of these weapons will be manufactured in 2025, and their transfer to the Ukrainian army will take place promptly. The first samples may be handed over to the Armed Forces in the coming weeks. Ukraine also signed a contract with Diehl Defense for the production of IRIS-T air defense systems and corresponding missiles. The total value of this agreement is 2.2 billion euros.

During a joint press conference in Berlin, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the signing of agreements on the joint production of long-range weapons. According to Mertz, such production can be carried out both in Germany and on Ukrainian territory.

We will remind, on May 7, Germany handed over another military package to Ukraine. It included, in particular, Zuzana-2 howitzers and missiles for the IRIS-T air defense system. This was the first help for Kyiv after the Bundestag on May 6 elected Mertz to the post of chancellor in the second attempt.
