A former adviser to the Ministry of Defense and a people’s deputy were detained for fraud in the procurement of military uniforms

A former People’s Deputy of Ukraine and ex-adviser of the Ministry of Defense are suspected of misappropriating more than 10 million dollars during the purchase of military uniforms in 2022. According to the investigation, the funds earned in the corruption scheme were spent on the purchase of luxury real estate. The suspects face up to 12 years in prison, informs National Police.
“In order to seize budget funds for the order of more than 1,000,000 sets of clothing for the Ukrainian military under the agreements concluded in 2022 at inflated prices, the former adviser to the ex-deputy minister of defense entered into a criminal conspiracy with the people’s deputy of the II-IV convocations. The deputy’s son also appears in the suit and a foreigner Received more than 10 million dollars for the difference from the planned purchase price to be divided among all participants of the criminal scheme, in particular, expositors of the Ministry of Defense”, – the message says.
The names of those involved in the case have not been officially disclosed, but sources indicate that it is about former People’s Deputy Ihor Franchuk, his son Yaroslav Franchuk and ex-adviser of the Ministry of Defense Roman Balykin. According to the investigation, the participants of the criminal scheme planned to divide more than 10 million dollars received from the difference in the cost of purchases among all those involved, including former officials of the Department of Defense.
“More than 10 million dollars of the difference should have “fallen” into the pockets of the mediator, the adviser of the ex-deputy minister of the Ministry of Defense and the former People’s Deputy, who lobbied for the conclusion of these contracts”, – reports the police.
