Global Demographic Trends: Population Decline, Increasing Ageing and Regional Perspectives

By 2100, the global population is expected to decrease by one billion people compared to the current level. The steady and rapid increase in the number of people on the planet will reach its peak in 2064, after which a decline will begin. Ukraine is projected to have between 11.25 and 28.24 million inhabitants by 2100.
The global fertility trend will initially contribute to further population growth, but starting in 2064 (projected at 9.7 billion people), this figure will decline to 8.7 billion by 2100 due to improved access to contraceptives and education.
The countries expected to lead the way in terms of population growth by 2100 include India, China, Pakistan, the United States, and Nigeria. Instead, the population of Japan, Thailand, Italy, and Spain will decrease by more than 50% by the end of the same period. It is projected that China’s population will decline by 48%, as the country will not be able to provide an adequate level of social security for so many citizens.
The number of people over 65 will reach 2.37 billion, and under 20 – 1.7 billion by 2100. This indicates a continuing trend of population aging, which will lead to a steady increase in the burden on the working population.
