Google integrates Gemini AI into the Chrome browser

Google is starting to integrate its Gemini artificial intelligence models into the Chrome browser. The new features will be available this week for the desktop version on Mac and Windows in the US, and will appear later in the Chrome mobile app on iOS. reports Reuters.

Gemini integration involves interaction with other company services, including Calendar, YouTube and Maps. In the future, we plan to add agent capabilities that will allow you to perform multi-step tasks and create summaries of information from multiple sites.

The launch of Gemini in Chrome coincided with the US Federal Court ruling in the biggest antitrust case against Google in three decades. Judge Amit Mehta ordered the company to provide competitors with access to online search data, but declined to impose the harshest measures, including forcing the sale of the Chrome browser.

From now on, Google must share search data with competitors, including Microsoft, DuckDuckGo, as well as AI companies OpenAI and Perplexity. This will allow creating new competitive search engines and artificial intelligence models.

Users will be able to activate the AI assistant through the icon in the upper right corner of the browser to get an explanation of complex information on the pages. For example, he can adapt a dessert recipe to a gluten-free diet.

Gemini already works with several tabs at the same time, allowing you to compare data from different sites and form summary results. This will be useful both when planning trips and when choosing products, when you need to quickly evaluate several options. In the next updates, it will be possible to restore previously visited pages on request – for example, to find a site with a certain product or article.
