Great Britain introduced new sanctions against the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation

The British government has announced new sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet, which is used to transport Russian oil. This is reported in a message on the official website of the British government.

Sanctions apply to 70 shadow fleet tankers that Russia uses to export oil.

“International action to increase economic pressure on Russia and cut off the critical cash flows it desperately needs to pay for this illegal war is vital. These sanctions are the next step in the UK’s leading efforts to increase economic pressure alongside our security support and our work with the Coalition for a Just and Durable Peace in Ukraine,” Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said.

In addition, Great Britain imposed sanctions against 30 organizations and individuals that support the Russian military-industrial complex by supplying critical components — electronics, chemicals and explosives — used in the production of missiles and other weapons systems.

In particular, sanctions have been imposed on a Chinese company, the co-owners of which are Russian citizens, as well as on a Turkish company. Both structures provided Russia with electronic equipment necessary for the production of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as attack drones.

At the same time, the European Union is considering the possibility of introducing a new package of sanctions against more than a dozen Russian banks and energy companies. Among the options are restrictions on the activities of Russian payment and credit systems, cryptocurrency exchanges, as well as new measures aimed at limiting oil trade.
