Higher education in Ukraine: the government has approved new changes

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a new list of fields of knowledge and specialties, which significantly reduces the number of fields of knowledge from 28 to 11, maximally adapted to European standards. About this reported Ministry of Education and Science.
This decision is aimed at adapting Ukrainian legislation to European legal norms. The new list corresponds to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCE).
“Approved standards of higher education will be updated in accordance with EU regulations, which will contribute to increasing the academic mobility of students. Ukrainian higher education is gradually integrated into the Single European Higher Education Area”, – the message states.
Instead of the previous 28 fields of knowledge, 11 integrated areas are now allocated:
- Education;
- Culture, art and humanities;
- Social sciences, journalism and information;
- Business, administration and law;
- Information technologies;
- Natural sciences, mathematics and statistics;
- Engineering, production and construction;
- Health care and social security;
- Transport and services;
- Security and Defense;
- Agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary medicine.

The Ministry of Education and Science emphasizes that this decision, in addition to European integration goals, is also strategically important for the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Individual Educational Trajectories”.
