Hungary announces results of referendum on Ukraine’s EU accession

The Hungarian government announced the results of the referendum on Ukraine’s membership in the EU, stating that 95% of the participants were against it. About this informs Telex.

2,278,000 people took part in the vote. citizens, which is approximately 29% of the total number of voters registered for the 2024 European Parliament elections.

The results are questionable due to the possibility of repeated voting: the same person could participate in the process twice using different email addresses. Government representative Gergei Guias assured that paper ballots are notarized and electronic voting is also checked, but could not explain how the system detects cases of double voting.

Oppositionist Peter Madyar, leader of the Tisza party, called Orbán’s initiative a failure, claiming that only about 600,000 people actually took part in the vote.

“This is the lowest result in the entire history of the National Consultations. And this is in the conditions when the campaign lasted for several months, with total mobilization and the burning of tens of billions of public funds.”, – emphasized the leader of “Tysy”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that the Hungarian authorities did everything possible to ensure the desired result for themselves in the VOKS2025 consultations regarding the European perspective of Ukraine.
