Hungary summons Ukrainian ambassador over alleged “hunting” of Hungarians during mobilization
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced the summoning of the Ukrainian ambassador to the Foreign Ministry in Budapest over the alleged “violent hunting” of Hungarians during mobilization. He published the corresponding statement in a video message on Facebook.
Szijjártó called the war in Ukraine “hopeless and senseless” and criticized the support of Kyiv by the European Union.
“Brussels is investing countless funds in this absolutely hopeless and senseless war, and they want to take even more money from Europeans to continue this senseless and hopeless war, which brings new deaths, new suffering and new hunting for people every day. “In Ukraine, there is an open hunt for people on the streets to support the war,” he said.
As an example, the minister cited the case of a man from Berehove, who, according to him, has Hungarian citizenship and was allegedly mobilized despite his official exemption from conscription. He also mentioned another young man of Hungarian nationality, who, according to him, disappeared.
“Another young man of Hungarian nationality, who had mental problems, was also kidnapped and has already disappeared. Therefore, today we summoned the Ukrainian ambassador in Budapest to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express our protest against the ongoing forced conscriptions and the open hunt for people on the streets. This war is absolutely hopeless. This war must be ended immediately. This war brings new victims and suffering every day. It makes no sense,” Szijjártó said.
Szijjártó previously stated that he supports the illegal crossing of Ukrainian men across the border, as he considers mobilization an obstacle to ending the war unleashed by the Russian Federation.
Prior to this, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made a number of statements, accusing the EU and NATO leadership of preparing Europe for a large-scale war. He also stated that Ukraine is Hungary’s enemy.
