In Brovary, Kyiv region, a mother hid the body of her deceased son in a closet
In Brovary, Kyiv region, law enforcement officers reported a 38-year-old woman who did not provide assistance to her two-year-old son when he became unwell. The Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the police announced that the child had died.
According to the investigation, on the evening of April 23, the boy felt unwell, but the woman did not call the doctors. After some time, the child died at home.
“After that, the woman tried to hide her son’s death – she put the boy’s body in a box and hid it in the closet of her own bedroom. For several days in a row, the woman lied to her relatives that the child was allegedly in the hospital with drug poisoning. The body was discovered by law enforcement officers after the grandmothers, unable to find their grandson in the medical facility, raised the alarm. The child’s mother justified this act by saying that she did not want to give up and bury her son,” the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
Investigators established that the failure to provide the necessary medical care led to the boy’s death. According to the head of the Investigative Department, Serhiy Bolvinov, the child had physical injuries, including bruises and abrasions, and the final cause of death must be established by an examination.
“The woman herself does not hide her problems with alcohol. According to preliminary information, she tried to get treatment, took antidepressants. But in the end she broke down and returned to using. A forensic psychiatric examination is ahead. At the moment, she gives confusing and contradictory explanations. She says that she allegedly tried to save her son – she was looking for the number of the children’s hospital in her phone, but she couldn’t find it,” Bolvinov said. The woman was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 135 and Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for her. Law enforcement officers will also check the actions of social services to protect children in this family.
