In North Macedonia, 59 people died as a result of a fire at a concert

In the city of Kočani in North Macedonia, 59 people died and 155 others were injured during a fire at a concert in a club. About this informs MY.

The fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. on March 16, local time, during a performance by the DNK band at the Pulse club. According to the previous version, the fire was caused by the use of pyrotechnics.

At a press conference on March 16, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Panče Toškovski, noted that more than 100 victims were hospitalized. He explained that the ceiling of the club was made of flammable material, which was ignited by pyrotechnics used to create lighting effects.

“When the sprinklers went off, the sparks most likely hit the ceiling, which is made of flammable material, and in a short time the fire spread throughout the club and thick smoke was formed.”, — noted Toshkovsky.

Prime Minister Hristiyan Mickoski and other government officials arrived at the scene of the tragedy. Emergency services and local residents joined the rescue work. The police issued a warrant for the arrest of four people connected with the tragedy. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the detention of one man, but has not yet provided details about his involvement.
