In Russia, YouTube was actually blocked

In Russia, there are serious problems with access to YouTube, which experts regard as a de facto blocking of video hosting. This is reported by rosZMI.

YouTube traffic in Russia decreased to 20% of the usual level. Google’s monitoring service recorded a decrease in traffic to 8.5 points, although previously this figure was 40 points. Such a difference indicates a purposeful restriction of access to the platform.

The first restrictions on YouTube’s work in Russia began back in the summer. At first, the state operator Rostelecom explained the decrease in speed with technical problems allegedly related to Google’s equipment. However, the authorities later officially admitted that the slowdown was intentional.

The latest phase of the slowdown, which is the most noticeable, began last week and is still ongoing. Such actions may be part of a larger campaign by the Russian authorities to limit access to popular international platforms and strengthen control over the information space.
