In six months, the EU imported €4.5 billion worth of Russian liquefied gas
In the first half of 2025, the European Union imported approximately €4.48 billion worth of Russian liquefied natural gas. About this informs German wave.
For the same period in 2024, the value of imports from the Russian Federation amounted to about 3.47 billion euros.
“In general, in the first six months of this year, the European Union imported LNG worth about 26.9 billion euros. Most of it came from the United States, in the amount of about 13.7 billion euros,” – the message says.
According to the European Commission, in 2024 the United States was the main supplier of LNG to the EU, providing almost 45 percent of all imports.
“Russia supplies pipeline gas to the EU through one gas pipeline – “Turkish Stream”. Supplies are intended only for a few countries, such as Hungary and Slovakia”, – the message emphasizes.
At the same time, Russian LNG is delivered by sea tankers. In 2024, its supply increased, but at the beginning of 2025 it began to decrease again. In January-March, the EU received about 5.7 billion cubic meters of Russian gas.
“Russian oil is mainly subject to the EU embargo introduced in 2023. Sanctions on Russian gas apply only to pipelines and provide for exceptions for Budapest and Bratislava. The European Union did not introduce restrictive measures regarding liquefied natural gas from Russia. It was actively purchased, in particular, by Spain, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. At the same time, Austria, Poland, and the Baltic states previously voluntarily refused gas from Russian Federation”, – summed up in DW.
