In the Mykolaiv region, a soldier shot and killed two comrades
In the Mykolaiv district, officers of the National Police of Ukraine detained a thirty-five-year-old serviceman on suspicion of murdering two colleagues. According to the investigation, a verbal conflict arose between the men while drinking alcoholic beverages together, which led to the use of firearms.
It was established that the suspected soldier was on duty with other servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine aged fifty-eight and thirty-eight. During the altercation, the suspect used the AK-74 assault rifle attached to him and fired a series of shots at his opponents. The victims died at the scene of the incident from serious gunshot wounds before the arrival of emergency services.
Investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Mykolaiv region, operatives and forensic experts worked at the scene of the incident. Law enforcement officers seized the weapon of the crime, spent cartridges and other material evidence, which are currently being sent for relevant expert examinations.
The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and taken to the territorial police station.
The detainee has currently been notified of suspicion of committing the intentional murder of two people. The law provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of fifteen years to life imprisonment with confiscation of property. In the near future, the court should choose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention.
Law enforcement agencies continue a comprehensive pre-trial investigation to establish all the circumstances and causes of the tragedy. Ensuring a high level of discipline in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and strict control over the observance of law and order in the places where military units are deployed remain priority tasks for maintaining security within the country.
