In the Netherlands, the liberal party D66 was officially declared the winner of the parliamentary elections
The Dutch Electoral Council has announced the final results of the snap parliamentary elections, confirming that the liberal party “Democracy 66” (D66), which received the most votes, won. reports NOS.
According to official figures, D66 has a lead of 29,668 votes over its closest rival, the far-right Freedom Party (PVV).
Both political forces have won 26 seats in parliament each. Next are the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) with 22 seats, GroenLinks-PvdA with 20 seats and the conservative Christian Democratic Appeal with 18 seats.
The head of the Electoral Council, Wim Kuiken, said that the election results were reliable and that no irregularities had been recorded that could cast doubt on them. At the same time, he noted that the vote counting process was carried out by humans, so some errors did occur, but their number had decreased significantly – from more than 14,000 in 2021 to 7,766 this year.
The leader of the far-right Freedom Party (PVV), Geert Wilders, admitted defeat in the elections and congratulated the liberal Democracy 66 (D66) party on its victory. At the same time, D66 has already begun preliminary negotiations on forming a coalition.
