In which countries can Ukrainian refugees receive the largest payments in 2025
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, millions of Ukrainians have gone abroad. Germany and Poland accepted the most refugees, and since the beginning of 2022 they are still leading among other countries. However, by 2025, it became clear that the authorities of some countries are reviewing their attitude towards helping Ukrainians – for example, in Norway they announced that they will no longer automatically provide asylum to residents of 14 regions of Ukraine.
Germany
Germany still remains the country that guarantees Ukrainians the highest level of Bürgergeld – that’s what social benefits are called. The amount is not fixed, it is calculated individually depending on the category under which the applicant falls.
In 2025, the amounts are as follows:
- 563 euros – for adults who came alone, as well as for mothers or single parents;
- EUR 506 each – for a married couple;
- 471 euros – for children aged fourteen to seventeen;
- 390 euros – for children aged six to thirteen years;
- 357 euros – for children under five years old.
Since the beginning of the current year 2025, the German government has announced that new rules have been introduced for Ukrainian refugees. So, if a person refused the job offered to him by the social service, his assistance can be “cut” by 30% within 90 days.
Poland
Since January 1 of this year, the amount of payments in the country has been increased and now varies from 950 to 1,679 zlotys per person. Currently, Ukrainian refugees with children are entitled to social assistance in the amount of 800 zlotys per child, but some Ukrainian citizens may be deprived of this privilege.
Assistance for refugees who have the status of disability can also be called tangible – from 600 to 4,000 zlotys, depending on the conclusion of the MSEK and the category. But this is only a payment – in addition to it, persons with disabilities can receive a pension in the amount of 1,588 zlotys.
Schoolchildren who came to Poland from Ukraine with their parents, fleeing hostilities, receive 300 zlotys from the Polish government once a year, with this money the child can buy stationery, a backpack and other school supplies.
Sweden
Aid for refugees in Sweden As of the end of 2024, Sweden is trying to increase aid for refugees from Ukraine by developing a new program. Currently, those who moved to Sweden because of the war in Ukraine receive 71 kroner per day per person, but the authorities have developed a draft law, thanks to which the financial support can be increased.
This initiative is primarily aimed at Ukrainians who plan to stay in Sweden. According to the draft law, a person needs to live in the country for 1 year instead of three in order to be registered in the National Register. This will make it possible to receive 308 crowns per day instead of 71, issue an identification number, have the right to assistance in employment and language learning, and also facilitate access to medical programs.
Spain
Since 2023, Spain has effectively stopped state support for Ukrainian refugees. Social benefits are only available for the low-income and families with children (from 500 to 2,000 euros, depending on the composition of the family). Instead, charitable organizations, such as the Red Cross, provide temporary accommodation in hostels (up to 1.5 years) and sometimes provide financial assistance for housing rent.
Netherlands
The maximum amount of assistance that Ukrainians in the Netherlands can count on is 242 euros. The amounts vary depending on the category the applicant falls under, but the state will definitely provide a person with a payment of 63 euros if the refugee lives in an asylum. This money can be spent on clothes.
For those who live in foster families, more significant payments are provided – such refugees will be paid 81 euros, which can be spent at their discretion. It is important to understand that any help is possible as long as the person does not have his own money due to lack of work.
The above amounts are the minimum possible assistance for refugees, but compensations may be different:
- 242 euros – for single adults;
- 242 euros – for adults living together;
- 193 euros – for adults living in a family of three;
- 170 euros – for adults living with four or more.
Other payment amounts are provided for Ukrainians with children. If there are two of you with a child, you will receive 200 euros each, three – 161 euros, four or more – 140 euros. The Dutch government assumes that this money will be spent on food.
Czech Republic
The Czech Republic has established its rules for calculating payments for Ukrainian refugees. Yes, the amount of compensation you will receive depends on the date of application. As soon as a refugee has received temporary protection status, he has the right to apply for benefits. This can happen within a period of one hundred and fifty days from the moment of acquiring the necessary status, that is, from the first to the fifth month, or later – from the sixth month.
Assistance for refugees who applied from 1 to 5 months after receiving temporary protection:
- 4,800 kroner – for single adults;
- 3490 kroner – for a child.
Also, payments belong to persons with disabilities. Adults can count on 7,290 kroner, and children on 5,235 kroner.
If you want to issue payments after the expiration of 150 days from the moment of receiving the status of temporary protection, then the amounts of financial assistance will be different:
- 3130 kroner – for single adults;
- 3490 kroner – for children;
- 4,860 kroner – for pensioners, pregnant girls and other Ukrainians, whom the Czech government classifies as vulnerable categories of the population.
As well as from 1 to 5 months, those who applied for assistance later are entitled to financial support for persons with disabilities. Adults will be paid 7,290 kroner, and children 5,235 kroner.
In addition to financial aid, the Czech authorities help refugees with housing. For the first three months, Ukrainians are paid for an apartment, while a person looks for a job and settles in the country.
Norway
From 2025, the Norwegian authorities revised the social assistance system, reducing the amount of payments to reduce the burden on the municipal budget. Now Ukrainian refugees living in state hostels can receive 564 euros per month per adult. If they move to private housing, they are not provided with financial assistance.
In addition, from 2025, refugees who arrived with pets will not be provided with financial support, and it will be impossible to stay in a shelter with a dog or cat. Young people aged 19 to 24 will face new restrictions in the field of dental treatment – free services will be available for them only after five years of residence in the country.
