In Zaporizhia, a major is suspected of illegal payments to “combatants” of over 7 million UAH
A major, head of the financial and economic service of one of the military units in Zaporizhia region, was reported on suspicion of abuse of office and neglect of military service. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the investigation, from the end of August 2023 to December 2024, the official intentionally facilitated the illegal accrual of additional monetary compensation in the amount of 100 thousand hryvnias for allegedly performing combat missions on the first line of defense. Such payments were received by his subordinates from the financial and economic service, although they did not actually participate in hostilities.
Despite this, documents were drawn up on the basis of which the commander of the military unit issued orders to accrue these payments. As a result, 11 servicemen illegally received more than 4.25 million hryvnias.
The investigation also established that the major gave his subordinate his login and password from his electronic account. Having gained access to the “Salary Project” system, he entered non-existent servicemen into the lists, changed bank card details and transferred funds to his own accounts, and also formed electronic registers for transferring money. As a result of these actions, the military unit suffered losses of over 7.35 million hryvnias.
Earlier, law enforcement officers reported the suspicion to a subordinate major – the head of the settlement group of the financial and economic service. According to the investigation, it was he who gained access to the unit’s electronic office, changed the details of military personnel’s salary cards, entered the data of discharged servicemen into the system, and opened 14 bank accounts for further misappropriation of funds. The suspect is currently in custody.
