In Zaporizhzhia, they plan to build modular shelters in the courtyards of high-rise buildings
In Zaporizhzhia, special modular shelters are planned to be installed in the courtyards of high-rise buildings. About this reports the head of Zaporizhzhia OVA Ivan Fedorov.
During an air raid, not all residents can quickly descend into a protected room. Many houses do not have basements, and the existing ones are often in a dilapidated state and do not meet safety requirements.
The structures that will be erected are modular structures partially buried underground. They will be able to accommodate from 30 to 50 people at the same time. During the alarm, the residents will leave the apartments directly into the yard, where there will be a safe place for shelter.
“Thus, there will be no need to look for access to basements or run to the nearest official hiding place, which may be several blocks away”, the message says.
According to Fedorov, we are not talking about individual pilot projects, but about a systemic approach. If the project receives the final approval of the Ministry of Community Development, modular shelters will be installed en masse — in Zaporizhzhia and other settlements of the region.
Final negotiations regarding financing and organization of construction are currently underway. The authorities hope that the implementation of the initiative will allow people to feel more protected in their areas even in the most difficult moments.
