Installation of a solar power plant has begun on the territory of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
At the industrial site of the Chernobyl NPP, work on the installation of a 2 MW solar power plant has started. The project is being implemented following an international tender conducted by the UNDP office in Ukraine.
The contractor for the work is the Ukrainian company Solar Stalkonstruktsiya LLC from Dnipro. It is engaged in the completion of the facility and the installation of the solar power plant. Practical work at the site began on March 16.
At present, the main preparation of the territory has been completed, the necessary equipment and tools have been delivered, and geodetic surveying is being carried out to determine the installation points for supporting metal structures in accordance with the project.
The Director General of the Chernobyl NPP, Serhiy Tarakanov, emphasized that the development of alternative generation will help ensure the critical needs of the plant in the event of blackouts or network damage, reduce dependence on external power supply and contribute to the stable operation of key systems. It is also expected that the implementation of the project will allow reducing electricity costs.
