Iran is ready to supply Russia with ballistic missiles: Bloomberg
European officials express fears about Iran’s imminent supply of ballistic missiles to Russia, which could lead to a quick reaction from Ukraine’s allies, informs Bloomberg.
Since the start of the full-scale war, Iran has already supplied Russia with Shahed drones, artillery and tank shells, and has allowed the production of attack drones to be located on Russian territory. At the same time, according to Western intelligence, in early 2024, Iran concluded an agreement with Russia on the supply of ballistic missiles.
Sources stress that the potential supply of ballistic missiles would be a significant escalation step in the conflict.
In response to the possible supply, NATO member states have already threatened Iran with increased sanctions.
Although the specific types of missiles and the extent of their supply remain unknown, one of the officials said that deliveries could begin in the coming days.
Official representatives of the United States refrained from commenting on the issue, and Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the country’s permanent mission to the United Nations did not respond to requests from Bloomberg.
It was previously reported that Iran plans to transfer hundreds of Fath-360 and Ababil ballistic missiles to Russia, designed to strike targets on the front and near the rear.
The topic of transferring Iranian missiles to Russia has been discussed since October 2022, when the Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar missiles were discussed. In February of this year, Reuters reported that Iran had transferred about 400 Fateh-110 missiles to Russia, but this has not yet been confirmed, and Russia has yet to use Iranian missiles on the battlefield.
