Iran ready to sign nuclear deal with US in exchange for lifting economic sanctions

Iran has expressed its readiness to conclude a nuclear agreement with the United States under certain conditions, which include the lifting of economic sanctions. This was stated by Ali Shamkhani, the chief adviser on political and military issues to the supreme leader of Iran. informs NBC News.

According to the official, Iran is willing to commit to never developing nuclear weapons, giving up its existing stockpile of highly enriched uranium, enriching only to a level permissible for peaceful purposes, and allowing international inspectors to monitor its nuclear program — in exchange for the immediate lifting of all economic restrictions.

When asked whether Tehran is ready to sign such an agreement immediately if these conditions are met, Shamkhani replied: “Yes.” His statement is considered one of the most direct and public positions from the inner circle of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei regarding the readiness to conclude an agreement. It is Khamenei who has the decisive say in matters of national security.

“It’s still possible. If the Americans act as they say, we can certainly have a better relationship. It could lead to a better situation in the near future.” Shamkhani explained.

At the same time, he expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s rhetoric:

“He’s talking about an olive branch we haven’t seen. It’s all barbed wire.”

It will be recalled that on May 2, 2025, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Iran should completely abandon uranium enrichment, develop long-range missiles, and allow American inspectors into its facilities. On May 10, the special envoy of the US president, Steve Witkoff, announced that the US may stop participating in nuclear negotiations with Iran if significant progress is not achieved.
