Israel says it will independently determine the composition of international forces in the Gaza Strip
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will determine which foreign troops can join the planned international force in the Gaza Strip, created to ensure a ceasefire as part of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan. According to Netanyahu, this position has already been agreed with Washington, reports Reuters.
“We control our security, and we have also made it clear regarding international forces that Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us, and that is how we work and will continue to work”, — the Israeli Prime Minister emphasized.
The Trump administration has ruled out the possibility of sending American troops to the Gaza Strip, but is considering the participation of countries such as Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and Azerbaijan in peacekeeping forces.
Netanyahu has previously hinted that opposes the presence of Turkish troops in Gaza. Relations between Israel and Turkey have deteriorated after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sharply criticized Israeli air and ground operations against Palestinian groups.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a recent visit to Israel that the international force should include “countries with which Israel feels comfortable”, but he did not specify whether this included Turkey.
