Canadian Prime Minister announces change in position of Trump and US officials on war in Ukraine
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a change in the position of Donald Trump and US officials regarding the war in Ukraine. According to him, Washington is now more realistic in assessing the situation on the front, the further course of hostilities and Russia’s losses. This was announced on June 17 by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“It was about a change of tone regarding Ukraine, a change of orientation, more realistic, in our opinion, expectations regarding the further course of this war and the position against Russia,” — emphasized Carney.
He added that during the meeting of the leaders of the states, they also discussed strengthening sanctions against Russia and the possibility of providing additional defense assistance to Ukraine. According to the Canadian Prime Minister, this issue was considered in quite some detail.
The summit of the leaders of the Group of Seven is taking place on June 15-17 in the French resort town of Evian-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Geneva. Among the main topics of the meeting are peace talks to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as the situation around Iran, in particular the signing of the agreement with the United States and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
On June 17, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the G7 countries plan to increase pressure on Russia because of its war against Ukraine. At the Evian summit, leaders agree on new sanctions, including against Russia’s oil and gas sector, as well as expanded support for Ukraine in the area of air defense and long-range capabilities.
