Israel to continue offensive in Gaza despite talks with Hamas

The Israeli military has announced the continuation of an active offensive in the Gaza Strip, despite ongoing negotiations with Hamas. It is planned to expand the operation to cover new areas. About this informs The Times of Israel.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz said he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to “continue the offensive in Gaza” and achieve all objectives “regardless of any negotiations.” Katz also noted that he ordered the military to use all available means to protect Israeli forces and eliminate Hamas.

The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, ordered the expansion of the ground operation against Hamas to additional areas of the Gaza Strip. On June 1, Zamir held a meeting in southern Gaza with Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor, Israeli Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar, COGAT chief Maj. Gen. Hassan Alian, and other commanders.

Zamir was also tasked with establishing additional humanitarian aid distribution points for the Palestinian civilian population.

“We are in the midst of a powerful and uncompromising campaign”, Zamir told the troops in Gaza.

We will remind you that the text of the draft of the new peace agreement proposed by the USA regarding the cease-fire in Gaza has recently appeared. The document contains a detailed timetable for the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Hamas and Israel, and outlines the terms for further negotiations between the parties.
