Israeli minister urges Jews to leave New York because of new mayor
Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Anti-Semitism Amichai Shikli has sharply criticized the newly elected mayor of New York, 34-year-old Muslim Democrat Zohrab Mamdani. He called him a “HAMAS supporter” and called on Jews to leave the city. This reports DW.
Shikli said that New York, “which once symbolized universal freedom, handed over the keys to power to a Hamas supporter”.
“His position is not that far from the position of the jihadist fanatics who killed three thousand New Yorkers 25 years ago”, – Shikli emphasized.
He also emphasized that “New York will never be the same again, especially for its Jewish communities”, and called on Jews to “seriously consider making the Land of Israel their new home”.
“New York is walking with its eyes wide open into the abyss into which London has sunk, added Shikley.
His position was supported by Israel’s Minister of National Security and leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, Itamar Ben-Gvir, who stated:
“Anti-Semitism has triumphed over common sense. Mamdani is a supporter of Hamas, an enemy of Israel, and an outspoken anti-Semite.
Currently, New York is home to about 1.3 million Jews, the largest Jewish community in the world outside of Israel. During his election campaign, Zochran Mamdani himself called the current Israeli government an “apartheid regime” and the war in Gaza a “genocide.” At the same time, he has made no public statements about Hamas.
