It will be easier for Ukrainians to find a job in Norway: what vacancies are offered

The Norwegian government calls on employers to employ Ukrainians more actively. The country’s authorities have already simplified the procedures for employment in some sectors, for example, in transport. Officials recognize the high qualifications of a large part of Ukrainian refugees and consider such specialists a valuable resource on the labor market.

Since 2022, more than 70,000 Ukrainians have found refuge in Norway. Most of them have completed or are completing a one-year integration course. This program includes Norwegian language courses and lessons on history, geography, and the country’s social structure. after completing the course, you can find a full-time job in the country. Most Norwegians speak English well, so if a Ukrainian did not have time to master Norwegian at a sufficient level, but speaks English, it will be easier to find a job.

Ukrainians make up about 7% (10,263 people) of those currently registered as unemployed in Norway. the overall level of unemployment in the country remains low at 3.9%.

“It is extremely important that as many Ukrainians as possible find their place in the labor market. Employment, especially in vacancies that correspond to the level of education and qualifications of refugees, is what will really promote inclusiveness and integration into Norwegian life and society. Also, work helps to improve knowledge of the Norwegian language,” he believes Hans Christian Holte, director of the Norwegian Social Security and Unemployment Agency NAV.

Employment rules in some sectors, in particular in the transport sector, were relaxed to make it easier to hire Ukrainians. There is an increased demand for specialists in the medical field, junior medical personnel.

“Even if the applicant’s match to the job requirements is not perfect, I encourage employers to make concessions where possible,” says Mr. Holte.

Trine Liz Ling, who advises the unemployed at the employment center, notes that many Ukrainians currently in Norway have a high level of professional competence.

“They come with a lot of experience. Most Ukrainian job seekers are well-motivated and responsible. They need our help to fully apply their knowledge and skills in their new workplace,” says Trine Liz Ling.
