“What we can do is try to encourage these people to de-escalate, but we’re not going to get involved in a war that is essentially none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.” – explained the vice president.
He added that the US is unable to force either side to stop hostilities, so Washington will continue to act through diplomatic channels.
“We hope and expect that this will not escalate into a wider regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict. Of course we are concerned about these things. The job of diplomacy and cool heads in India and Pakistan is to ensure that this does not escalate into a nuclear war. If it did, it would be terrible, but at the moment we don’t think it will.”, Vance concluded.
