Keir Starmer announced a meeting of the leaders of the “coalition of the willing” to develop a plan to support the peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that on March 20, a meeting of the leaders of the “coalition of the willing” will be held in London, during which thorough and effective plans will be developed to support the peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. As reported The Telegraph, he announced this during the press conference, which took place after his virtual meeting with the leaders of the countries that are part of the so-called “coalition of the willing”.
Starmer noted that currently the importance of the coalition is critical, it is moving into an active phase of preparation. According to him, its participants agreed on the need to increase pressure on Russia, maintain a stable flow of military aid to Ukraine, and strengthen sanctions against the Russian economy. All this is aimed at weakening Putin’s military power and encouraging him to participate in peace negotiations.
“Participating countries have agreed to accelerate practical actions to support a possible peaceful settlement. On Thursday, a meeting of our military officials will be held in Great Britain, where a clear plan will be presented aimed at strengthening a potential peace agreement and ensuring the long-term security of Ukraine.” Starmer emphasized.
Starmer also recalled that President Trump had previously offered Putin a path to lasting peace.
“Now it is our duty to make this proposal a reality. The time has come to move towards a concrete result — to stop the bloodshed and ensure a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine, as well as guarantee security for the whole world.” he concluded.
According to The Telegraph, European countries failed to reach an agreement on the introduction of troops into Ukraine during an online summit held in London. The only concrete decision of the meeting was the agreement to organize a separate meeting of generals from 27 countries to discuss possible scenarios for the deployment of troops. The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the possibility of forming a military mission to support Ukraine. However, no final decision was made to send military forces to Ukraine. It was decided to continue consultations and study potential scenarios of participation in the conflict.
In addition, it is noted that the United Kingdom seeks to obtain guarantees from the United States in the event of a possible attack by Russian forces on coalition forces. At the same time, US President Donald Trump and the Pentagon previously refused any obligations in such a scenario.
These events indicate the complexity of the negotiation process, as well as the need to carefully analyze the possible consequences of any military decision regarding Ukraine. The upcoming meeting in London will be an important stage in the formation of a joint strategy of the allied countries regarding further actions in the context of the war in Ukraine.
