Kyiv’s Pechersk Court releases former Odessa mayor Trukhanov from house arrest
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv changed the preventive measure for former Odessa mayor Gennady Trukhanov, canceling house arrest and replacing it with personal liability.
This decision concerns a case of official negligence that led to the deaths of nine people during bad weather on September 30, 2025. Nine officials, including Trukhanov’s deputies, heads of city council departments, and employees of the municipal enterprise “City Roads”, were also suspected in this case.
The investigation claims that Trukhanov improperly performed his duties, failed to ensure the normal functioning of the city’s engineering networks, and failed to initiate repairs to storm sewers and drainage systems, despite long-standing problems with flooding. On the day of the disaster, he failed to organize a public alert.
On October 28, Gennady Trukhanov was suspected by the police. The next day, the National Police reported the suspicions of the former mayor and other officials of the Odessa City Council and the municipal enterprise in connection with the flood that claimed the lives of nine people, a total of nine suspects.
