In 2024, 495.09 thousand were registered in Ukraine. deaths, which is 2.8 times greater than the number of births, which were recorded at 176.78 thousand. Such data leads report of the Ministry of Justice on the state registration of acts of civil status.
Compared to 2023, the number of newborns decreased by 10.71 thousand. (or 5.7%), while the number of deaths decreased by only 0.2% (or 1.15 thousand).
However, in the second half of 2024, the situation improved somewhat: the number of registered births increased by 1.6% compared to the first six months of the year and reached 89,02 thousand. At the same time, the death rate decreased by 2.7% to 244.12 thousand.
The worst indicator of the ratio of deaths to births was recorded in the Kherson and Donetsk regions, where the death rate exceeds the birth rate by 11 and 8.5 times, respectively. The indicator is also significantly higher than the average level in the Zaporizhia and Sumy regions (4.7 times), Kharkiv (4.5 times) and Chernihiv (4.4 times).
The best situation is observed in the Rivne region, where the death rate exceeds the birth rate by 1.6 times, as well as in Zakarpattia and Volyn regions (1.7 times), Kyiv (1.8 times), Chernivtsi (1.9 times), and Lviv regions (2 times).
