Lavrov announced Russia’s conditions for a “long-term” peace in Ukraine
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, announced the Kremlin’s conditions, which, in his opinion, should ensure a “long-term” peace. Sergey Lavrov said this in an interview with the Indonesian publication Kompas, which is posted on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Lavrov, in order to establish lasting peace, it is necessary to recognize and record in international legal form the new “territorial realities” that arose after the annexation of Crimea, Sevastopol, “DPR” and “LPR”, as well as Zaporizhia and Kherson regions to Russia as a result of the so-called “referendums”.
“The neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status of Ukraine must be guaranteed. These conditions were recorded in the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Ukraine in 1990, and it was on their basis that Russia and the international community recognized Ukrainian statehood, emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The conditions announced by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry almost completely coincide with the demands previously put forward by Vladimir Putin: Ukraine must officially recognize Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson oblasts and Crimea as Russian, refuse the supply of Western weapons, declare neutrality and guarantee that it will not join NATO or any other military alliances in the future.
