Legendary Dynamo Kyiv football player Volodymyr Muntyan has died

The legendary Ukrainian football player and coach Volodymyr Muntyan has died. He was 79 years old. The press service of Kyiv “Dynamo” reported the death of the former player, noting that he passed away after a long illness, without disclosing details.

Volodymyr Muntyan was one of the key figures in the history of “white-and-blue”. He spent 12 years with “Dynamo” from 1965 to 1977, becoming a symbol of an entire era of the club. During this time, the team won the USSR championship seven times, the USSR Cup twice, and the brightest international triumph was the victories in 1975, when the Kyiv team won the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. Muntyan was one of the leaders of that legendary team.

Muntyan’s personal achievements were also significant: in 1970 he was recognized as the football player of the year in Ukraine. At the international level, he played for the USSR national team, where he played 49 matches and scored seven goals, leaving a noticeable mark on the national team.

After completing his playing career, Volodymyr Muntyan worked as a coach, passing on his experience to the younger generation. His name will forever remain among the most prominent figures in Ukrainian football and in the history of Dynamo Kyiv.
