Macron believes that peace in Ukraine will not be achieved in the near future
French President Emmanuel Macron said that he sees no preconditions for a quick peace in Ukraine, as Russia has shown no signs of readiness to end the war.
Emmanuel Macron said he supports peace initiatives aimed at resolving the war, but called for a sober assessment of the situation.
“I am, to put it mildly, very skeptical that we will be able to achieve peace in the short term perspective. I mean that, in my opinion, it is good to continue this initiative, but let’s be realistic. There is no desire for peace on the Russian side,” Macron stressed.
In his opinion, in such circumstances, international partners should continue to support Ukraine. Separately, the French President stressed the need to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, in particular regarding its “shadow fleet” in order to “destroy its business model.”
Macron also touched on the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, noting that their content is still being worked out and must be “agreed on in specific terms.”
