Macron plans to ban social media for children under 15 in France

French President Emmanuel Macron plans to ban social media for children under 15 in France “in the coming months” unless progress is made at the European Union level. About this informsPolitician.

Note that Greece, with the support of France and Spain, is leading an initiative aimed at significantly limiting the time teenagers spend online. But Macron, addressing the French after the killing of a high school teaching assistant on Tuesday, June 10, stressed that he wanted to act more quickly.

“We Can’t Wait”, – said the French president.

In particular, he announced that his country will soon introduce age verification on sites that sell knives online – by analogy with the measures already in place for porn sites.

“A 15-year-old child will no longer be able to buy a knife online. This means we will introduce huge financial sanctions and bans,” – he promised.

Later in the evening, Macron wrote in X that he supports a ban on social media for children under the age of 15.

“Platforms can verify age. Let’s do it,” he added.

The murder of a 31-year-old school assistant on June 10 in Nozhan was strongly condemned by French politicians. It also raised concerns about how a minor could commit such a crime. After this incident, French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said that as part of an experiment, protective gates will be installed in some schools to prevent violent incidents in them.

It will be recalled that on June 10 in France, a schoolboy attacked a school assistant with a knife while checking students’ backpacks, as a result of which she died. According to the national gendarmerie, during the detention of a 15-year-old student of the 9th grade of a secondary school, the gendarme received minor injuries to his hand.
