Straw Hat Day – the holiday began to be celebrated in the 1920s in the USA. At that time, such hats were very popular. As part of the advertising campaign, one of the manufacturers proposed the idea of a straw block holiday. It was joyfully received by the public and the holiday took root. And although the fashion for such accessories has passed, Straw Block Day is still celebrated.

Interesting fact: straw hats even became the cause of a real riot. According to the informal rules of propriety, in the 20s of the last century, gentlemen had to change their summer headgear (straw) to winter (felt hat) from September 15. Those who did not do this could be jokingly tipped off. In 1922, a group of teenagers in New York began throwing hats off passers-by a few days before September 15th. Some even trampled other people’s blocks. Dissatisfied with the hooliganism, the men went to the rally – “Straw Hat Rebellion”, and the police went on a hunt for teenage hooligans.
