World Metrology Day – it was on this day in 1875 that representatives of seventeen countries signed the Metric Convention. Its original purpose is to ensure the unity of measurements (units of mass, distance, time, etc.) throughout the world. The inhabitants of Ancient Egypt were the first to try to standardize measurements, but today there is an established international system for this.

World Traumatologist Day – today they pay due respect to doctors who help patients recover from fractures and other bone and joint injuries.

World Bee Day – these insects pollinate a third of all cultivated plants used by humans. Due to the aggressive use of pesticides, pollinating insects are dying out. In some regions of China, people pollinate pear orchards by hand because bees have died out due to environmental pollution. The holiday is intended to remind about the importance of insects for nature and man.

Day of Bank Employees of Ukraine – the professional holiday of banking specialists has been celebrated since 2004.

1498 – the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama reached the shores of India.

1899 – Jacob Herman became the first driver to be arrested for speeding. It is interesting that the speed limit at that time was 20 km/h.

1905 — Mykhailo mechanical lift was opened in Kyiv.

1927 – American pilot Charles Lindbergh began the first non-stop transatlantic flight.

1961 — the Shevchenko Prize was established.

2005 — the debut of independent Ukraine at the Cannes Film Festival took place — the world premiere of the documentary film “Travellers” directed by Ihor Strembytskyi, which won the Palme d’Or.
