Meta is preparing its fourth reorganization in the field of artificial intelligence in six months

Meta is once again changing the structure of its research in the field of artificial intelligence. According to The Information, which quotes Reuters, this is already the fourth large-scale reorganization in the last six months.

As reported, the CEO of the company, Mark Zuckerberg, wants to accelerate as much as possible the work on the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), a technology capable of performing intellectual tasks at the level or even higher than human capabilities. Its goal is not only to make a scientific and technical breakthrough, but also to create new sources of income that will allow Meta to compete in the conditions of heightened competition in the Silicon Valley market.

Under the new plan, the Superintelligence Labs division, which Meta recently created to focus all areas of work with artificial intelligence, will be divided into four separate groups. Among them: a new laboratory under the working name “TBD Lab”, which is planned to be shortened; a product team that will work on the development of services, in particular, the Meta AI assistant; group responsible for infrastructure; and the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) laboratory, which will continue to engage in long-term fundamental research.

The previous reorganization, which culminated in the creation of Superintelligence Labs, was met with mixed reviews. It comes after several key players left the company, and the last open Meta model, the Llama 4, received negative reviews from the community due to quality and reliability. Now, Meta hopes that the new division will enable more efficient allocation of resources and faster breakthrough results.

In addition to structural changes, the company is actively investing in physical infrastructure for the development of its AI projects. Meta has raised $29 billion in funding from American investment firm PIMCO and alternative asset manager Blue Owl Capital. The funds will go toward expanding a data center in rural Louisiana.

It will be recalled that in July, Mark Zuckerberg publicly stated that the company is ready to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on the construction of new, large-scale data centers for artificial intelligence. According to him, these investments are key to the future of Meta, which aims to keep up with its main competitors, such as Google, Microsoft and OpenAI.
