Meta will lay underwater Internet cables 50 thousand kilometers long

The Meta company presented the Waterworth project, the goal of which is to lay underwater Internet cables with a total length of 50 thousand kilometers, which is more than the length of the equator. The new project will cover five continents and provide the best connectivity in the industry, it is said in the company’s official statement.

Waterworth will pass through the US, India, Brazil, South Africa and other key regions, promoting economic cooperation, digital integration and technological development. Meta will invest several billion dollars in the project, and its implementation will last several years.

This infrastructure project will expand the scale and reliability of global digital networks by opening three new ocean corridors with high-speed connectivity. The company also emphasizes that Waterworth will contribute to the implementation of innovations in the field of artificial intelligence around the world.

Submarine cable systems, including Waterworth, are a key part of the global digital infrastructure, carrying more than 95% of intercontinental traffic.
