Metallurgical exports of Ukraine decreased by 36.3%
According to the results of January-July 2025, Ukraine reduced the export of steel semi-finished products by 36.3% compared to the same period last year – to 705.62 thousand tons. Foreign exchange earnings from these exports decreased by 37.6% and amounted to $342.98 million, reports GMK Center.
In July, Ukrainian metallurgical companies sent 140.94 thousand tons of semi-finished products abroad. This is 41% less than in July 2024, but at the same time 140.5% more than in June. Revenue for the month amounted to $64.49 million, which is 41% less year-on-year, but 118.3% more compared to the previous month.
According to the estimates of industry associations, the negative dynamics is explained not only by the market situation. Significant pressure is exerted by high tariffs for railway transportation, difficulties with logistics and a shortage of labor. This restrains the export opportunities of companies, which showed almost 90% growth last year due to the launch of the sea corridor.
We remind you that in 2024, Ukraine increased its export of semi-finished steel products by 56.7% compared to 2023 – from 1.2 million tons to 1.89 million tons. Export growth was made possible by the resumption of sea transportation to distant markets. In particular, 356.17 thousand tons of products were delivered to Egypt (+1233% in annual terms), to Bulgaria – 595.02 thousand tons (+30% y/y), and to Turkey – 215.76 thousand tons.
The largest increase in shipments occurred in the third quarter, when exports amounted to 641.9 thousand tons, which ensured a significant increase in annual indicators. The revenue of Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises from exports in 2024 rose by 52.4% and reached 927.55 million dollars.
