Microsoft creates team to develop AI in medical diagnostics

Microsoft has created a new division, the MAI Superintelligence Team, which will focus on developing artificial intelligence for medical diagnostics. The company believes that within the next 2-3 years, such systems will be able to surpass doctors in the accuracy of detecting diseases. This is reported by Reuters.

The project is headed by Mustafa Suleiman, head of Microsoft’s artificial intelligence and co-founder of DeepMind. The company’s team will focus on solving specialized tasks – in particular, in the field of diagnosing diseases, developing new molecules and improving energy storage systems.

The MAI Superintelligence Team will include both current Microsoft employees and new scientists. Karen Simonyan has been appointed as the chief scientific officer. Although the company does not disclose the amount of investment, the corporation confirms that the funding for the project will be significant.

As a reminder, the 2025 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for the discovery of mechanisms of immune tolerance. The laureates were immunologists Mary Brancow, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimon Sakaguchi, who discovered the mechanisms of peripheral immune tolerance. Their research explained how the body prevents attacks on its own cells and why persistent autoimmune reactions do not develop.
