The general manager of Xiaomi was fired due to the leak of confidential information
Xiaomi officially confirmed the dismissal of Wang Teng, who held the position of general manager of marketing for Xiaomi China and the Redmi brand. The reason was violations of the company’s internal rules and the leakage of confidential information. This was reported by ECNS publication.
The company’s internal message states that the decision was made in accordance with the Disciplinary Rules for Xiaomi employees and the Code of Integrity and Compliance. The company emphasized that it adheres to the principle of “zero tolerance, full coverage and no exceptions” in matters of wrongdoing. This approach, according to Xiaomi, is aimed at preserving corporate discipline and ensuring long-term development.
Separately, the company appealed to its managers in the China region to draw conclusions from this situation, to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to established institutional boundaries. Wang Teng himself admitted his mistake, expressing deep disappointment and willingness to take responsibility.
Who exactly benefited from the information leak is currently unknown. As of September 9, Wang Teng’s account on Douyin (the Chinese equivalent of TikTok) was made private, his page on Kuaishou (a popular video platform and competitor of Douyin) was blocked, and his verification on Weibo as the marketing manager of Xiaomi China and the Redmi brand was canceled.
He started his career at Oppo as a product manager, and in 2016 he joined Xiaomi in Beijing. In 2020, he headed the direction of Redmi products, and from 2023 he worked as the general manager of the Redmi brand and Xiaomi China marketing. He played a key role in the launch of new smartphone models, the promotion of the HyperOS system, the formation of brand strategy and the establishment of communication with users through Weibo, Douyin and Kuaishou.
