More than 100 children remain in Pokrovsk, social institutions do not work: OVA
There are currently about 26,000 residents in the city of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, of which 1,076 are children. About this reported head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin, during the telethon “Edyny Novyny” on September 4. According to him, the number of city residents has significantly decreased compared to a month ago, when there were more than 40,000 people.
Currently, more than 90% of institutions that serve the population are not working in Pokrovsk. However, some basic services such as family doctors, small shops, pharmacies and ATMs still function.
The situation in the neighboring city of Myrnograd also remains tense. According to Filashkin, almost all children from the city have already been evacuated, only about 50 remain. In Toretsk, where the delivery of humanitarian aid is complicated due to active hostilities, about 1,700 residents remain.
The head of the OVA emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are doing everything possible to deter Russian troops in the Pokrovska and Toretsk areas. In particular, the Defense Forces successfully destroy the sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the enemy trying to penetrate into the city.
The situation in the Pokrovska region remains extremely tense. At the end of July, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported significant tactical successes of Russian troops in the direction of Pokrovsk, and as of August, the occupiers had approached the city to a distance of 10.5 kilometers. Against the background of these events, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced the decision to strengthen the troops in this direction in order to restrain the offensive.
