More than 50 people have died in Nepal as a result of large-scale downpours
In Nepal, heavy rains caused landslides and floods, killing at least 51 people. This is reported by First Post First Post.
“At least 51 people have died in eastern Nepal since Saturday evening as a result of heavy rains that caused floods and landslides”, it said.
The highest death toll was recorded in Ilam district of Koshi province, where 37 people died in the past two days due to numerous landslides, local police (APF) spokesman Kalidas Dhaubaji told reporters.
Elsewhere in Koshi province, two people died in Udayapur and one in Panchtari district due to floods and landslides. Three people were killed by lightning in Rautahat, and two more were found dead in Khotanga. Another six people died in a road accident in Panchtar district caused by rain damage.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the tragic events in Nepal:
“The loss of life and damage caused by heavy rains in Nepal is alarming. We stand with the people and government of Nepal at this difficult time. As a friendly neighbor and first responder, India remains committed to providing any assistance that may be needed.
