China’s armed forces secretly trained Russian soldiers for war against Ukraine: Reuters
China’s armed forces secretly trained about 200 Russian servicemen on its territory at the end of last year, some of whom returned to the front in Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters.
The agency refers to data from three European intelligence agencies and documents available to the editorial office. The journalists reviewed the agreement that senior Russian and Chinese officers signed in Beijing on July 2, 2025.
According to the document, the Russian military was mainly trained in the use of drones, electronic warfare tactics, army aviation and armored infantry control. The training was organized at military facilities in Beijing and Nanjing. The agreement also provides for a reverse process, under which hundreds of Chinese military personnel are to undergo training on Russian territory.
“By training Russian military personnel at the operational-tactical level for their further participation in hostilities in Ukraine, China is becoming a much more direct participant in the war on the European continent than has been known until now,” a European intelligence official said.
The Russian and Chinese defense ministries did not respond to Reuters requests for comment. The information emerged amid a planned visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to China, where he is to be received by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
