More than 700 Ukrainian civilians were injured by Russian shelling in April: UN

As a result of Russian shelling in April, more than 700 Ukrainian civilians were injured, mostly in the territory controlled by Ukraine.

About this reported at the meeting of the UN Security Council, Lisa Dowten, who spoke on behalf of the head of the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, reports the Voice of America.

According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, more than 700 civilian victims were recorded throughout Ukraine in April. Of them, 129 people died, and 574 were injured.

For the second month in a row, there has been a significant increase in the number of wounded civilians. 90% of all civilian casualties occurred on the territory controlled by Ukraine“, – stressed Dowten.

She devoted most of her speech to the situation around Kharkiv, noting that due to the escalation of hostilities on the part of Russia, seven thousand civilians were evacuated from the border areas of Kharkiv region. Dowten also drew attention to the destruction of infrastructure as a result of Russian shelling and the dire humanitarian situation in the region.

In addition, the UN said that Russia began intensively shelling Ukrainian railways. In April alone, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded ten attacks on railway infrastructure. As a result of these shellings, 16 civilians died, 59 more were injured.
