Musk’s support for Georgescu caused discontent in the Romanian Foreign Ministry

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Emil Hurezianu, believes that billionaire Elon Musk’s open support for anti-Western Romanian politician Kelin Georgescu can be seen as interference in the country’s internal politics. That’s what he’s about stated in an interview with Prima TV.

The head of the Romanian Foreign Ministry recalled that Musk has already expressed support for the far-right “Alternative for Germany” and is a “powerful and very influential figure.” In his opinion, Musk’s statement is “a form of interference in the internal politics of another state.”

At the same time, Khurezianu emphasized that he knows nothing about possible pressure from US officials on Romania in order to guarantee the “unimpeded” conduct of Georgescu’s campaign.

“I was not aware of any actual, overt pressure from American officials offering favors or desire for the candidate, in our case, Caeline Georgescu, to find a different course.” – he noted.

We will remind that at the beginning of December 2024, the Constitutional Court of Romania made an unprecedented decision to restart the presidential elections due to the scandal surrounding Georgescu’s campaign. The anti-Western candidate who unexpectedly won the first round has been linked to a campaign of foreign interference via TikTok.

Later, during a speech at the Munich Security Conference, US Vice President JD Vance criticized the annulment of the Romanian presidential election, questioning the country’s democratic processes.
