Mykola Tymoshyk became the laureate of the 2025 Vyacheslav Chornovol Award in the field of journalism
The laureate of the Vyacheslav Chornovol Award for the best journalistic work in the field of journalism in 2025 was the scientist and publicist Mykola Tymoshyk for the book “Totalitarian Journalism”. The corresponding decision was unanimously adopted by the awarding committee.
In his book, the author examines the phenomenon of totalitarian journalism, built on double morality and double standards, when media slogans and appeals contrasted sharply with Soviet reality. The work is based on the study of archival documents in Kyiv, Chernihiv and Chernivtsi, newspaper binders, as well as on his own journalistic experience: after graduating from university in 1978, Tymoshyk worked for almost ten years in various regional newspapers in Chernivtsi.
Chairman of the State Television and Radio Committee Oleg Nalivayko noted that 12 works were submitted to the competition this year. Among them are book editions, media publications, as well as TV and radio programs.
“The peculiarity of this year is the genre diversity of works nominated for the award – from television films, journalistic articles and books to thorough scientific works in the information field. Attention is drawn to the subject matter of the works, which highlight the history of Ukraine’s struggle for its state independence through the fates of people known and unknown to the general public, through the events of the past and the current realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleg Nalivayko noted.
The committee noted the high level of all presented works, each of which was carefully analyzed. In particular, the documentary film by LNU students “Salina through the eyes of descendants”, the book by local historian Volodymyr Polishchuk “Because of a non-proletarian surname became an enemy of the people”, as well as Valentina Rozumenko’s work “The Fierce Year of Invincibility” received favorable reviews.
We would like to remind you that the Vyacheslav Chornovol Award was established by the State Television and Radio Committee in 2004 and is awarded every year to the authors of works that contribute to the establishment of historical memory, national consciousness and identity of the Ukrainian people. It is presented on the occasion of Vyacheslav Chornovol’s birthday – December 24.
