NABU reported a search of their employee with the use of force

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) stated that at night, special forces and prosecutors from the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted a search of an employee of the Bureau with the use of force.

“Today, at about three in the morning, prosecutors from the Prosecutor General’s Office, accompanied by special forces, conducted a search of an employee of the NABU. Physical force was used against the NABU employee. The employee was not informed of any suspicion, ” — the NABU statement says.

The agency noted that the search was carried out without a court order and was likely related to the employee’s professional activities.

“This NABU employee is involved in documenting a number of corruption cases and has always acted clearly within the framework of Ukrainian legislation. According to available information, the employee was under covert surveillance prior to the search. The circumstances of the incident and the persons involved are being established, the bureau reported. At the same time, the Prosecutor General’s Office stated that a search was conducted at the home of a man who was allegedly installing surveillance devices in the building opposite the OGPU office. The nature of the deployment of surveillance devices actually ensured the total removal of information from the building of the state body under martial law. In particular, information about vehicles, license plates, movement schedules and recording of civil servants’ faces, the OGPU reported.

The prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the installation of surveillance devices. The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that they acted “immediately” and that the search was indeed conducted at the home of an NABU employee. They also stated that the Bureau employee did not explain the reason for installing surveillance devices in the OGPU office building.

Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
