North Korea has begun construction of a memorial to soldiers who died in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
North Korea has begun construction of a memorial in Pyongyang to honor its soldiers who died in Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The memorial is being built to “pray for the immortality of the proud military heroes of the DPRK” who performed “immortal feats” during foreign military operations.
“The families of martyrs and soldiers who fought in the operations to liberate Kursk are present here,” – said North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Kim recalled that North Korean troops have been in the Kursk region of Russia for a year and noted their assistance to Moscow in achieving a “decisive victory”. In addition to the DPRK leadership, the Russian Ambassador to North Korea, Alexander Matsegora, was also present at the foundation laying ceremony. According to Kim, relations between North Korea and Russia are “now reaching their historic peak”.
As a reminder, in August, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine reported that more than 10,000 North Korean servicemen continue to be at training grounds in the European part of Russia. According to the GUR, there is a preliminary agreement between Russia and the DPRK to send another 6,000 soldiers to carry out demining work, build roads and bridges, and provide medical assistance.
